Soul Sound with Joe and Canegreen
Canegreen supplied the PA system for US R ‘n’ B star Joe, across his four date UK tour. The artist enjoys cult status with his fan-base and his sell-out UK tour followed a 35-date tour in the US and visited the Birmingham NIA, Manchester Apollo and two nights at the Hammersmith Apollo.
Canegreen provided their EAW line array system, which was ideal for the different theatre-style venues. The format involved eight EAW 760’s over two EAW 761’s, flown either side of the stage, ensuring the floor and balcony areas achieved complete coverage, with 12 EAW SB-100’s covering the bottom end and four Meyer UPA-1P speakers as in-fills. Canegreen also supplied a Midas XL3 console for the monitor system with 12 Gauss/JBL bi-amped wedges, four Meyer MLS4’s side fills and a Meyer USW 2x15” and MSL2A cabinets acting as drum fills.
Joe’s sound engineer (and production manager), Al Grey (Jnr) used the Yamaha PM4000 supplied by Canegreen to mix on. Al has worked with Joe since January this year and worked on the US tour before coming to England. He commented: “I have used the EAW system in the US and like the way it sounds - so it made sense to continue using what I know is good. Being production manager and sound technician meant I needed the system to be installed efficiently ready for me to work with and Canegreen has delivered hassle-free installation of an excellent system.”
After 10 years in the music industry, Joe is a talented musician who has some input into the overall sound of the show. He was making multiple changes throughout the sound check in Hammersmith Apollo, such as writing acoustic guitar intros for that night’s show and he keeps his production team on their toes by changing his set for each concert. This closeness of the artist to the sound increases the importance of a high quality system.
