Mackie SDR24/96 Hard Disk Recorder Becomes a Pop Idol

Following its success last summer on tour with ex-Eurthymic superstar Annie Lennox, the Mackie SDR24/96 hard disk recorder has once again proved its worth in the live arena - firstly on tour with the 2002 Pop Idol runner-up and teen heartthrob Gareth Gates, and then again with last year’s 10 Pop Idol finalists as they toured the UK.
Musical Director for both tours, Mike Stevens, took delivery of four Mackie SDRs earlier this year. These were added to the two he purchased last year to fulfil the specs of both these tours and those planned for the summer. Stevens commented: “The SDR is the most reliable machine to use in a live environment. It is very solid and can be used in any type of atmosphere including the very humid, a condition that would prove a challenge for similar products.”
Gareth Gates’ ‘Go your own way’ tour kicked off at the end of February at the Glasgow SECC Arena and finished on 6th March at the London Wembley Arena. Last year’s Pop Idol finalists, including ultimate winner Michelle McManus, began their live tour in March starting at the Birmingham NEC on 10th March and finishing on 17th March, again at the London Wembley Arena. Each tour utilised two Mackie SDRs linked via midi-time code to an MPC300.
Stevens now plans to use the SDRs for a special summer tour that will see ex-Police front man Sting pair up with Annie Lennox. The tour will visit well over 40 cities in the US between late June and mid-October.
