Massteknik at Eurovision

Massteknik was – for the third time - responsible for the video technology and the LED screens at the Eurovision Song Contest in Istanbul, which took place on Saturday 15th May.

Amongst other equipment, 260 Barco i8 tiles were used and formed into three oval shaped floor areas for an absolutely stunning visual effect.

“This was a magnificent spectacle for the television public”, says Niclas Ljung, who was the technical project manager on site, responsible for the video systems. He continues: “We have been working in Istanbul for a month and have seen the way the hardware is working with the creative elements and it resulted in a amazing show.

The LED oval sections were integrated into the rest of the stage floor, which the artist was performing on. A surface of glass protected the tiles from potential damage. A high End Catalyst Media Server, which was managed from the lighting table, provided the LED-screens with graphics and layout, specific to each artist. This not only allowed for bespoke images beneath the performers, it also allowed graphics such as monitor and microphone positions to be marked during the turnarounds.

“One of the reasons for us being part of so many global and important events is the combination of high-end technology, creativity and experience we can deliver,” says Christopher Milnes, managing director at Massteknik UK.
