Sennheiser Launch Unsigned Artists Contest 2004
Sennheiser has announced the launch of this year's Unsigned Artists Contest. This is the fourth year that Sennheiser has run the competition, which aims to track down the best young bands in the UK and give them as much exposure and as much booty as possible.
At the final of the Unsigned Artist Contest 2003, Birmingham-based band Nowhere Near The Garden wowed the audience and the judges to clinch the much coveted winners spot. Persistent plugging from GWR and the promise of warm weather and blue skies culminated in an event beyond expectation. With temperatures soaring to record highs throughout the weekend, there was no excuse for the people of Bristol to miss the event, and by the time ex-Stone Roses guitarist Aziz Ibrahim finished his breathtaking 90 minute set, almost 100,000 were in the park for the start of the last balloon glow of the 2003 Bristol International Balloon Fiesta.
This year's six finalists will perform on the big concert stage at the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta and the winners will not only get to perform live at Glastonbury 2005 but they will also receive £2,500 cash, £2,500 worth of Sennheiser evolution G2 microphones and £500 worth of Sennheiser headphones. The five runners-up will each receive £1,000 worth of Sennheiser evolution G2 microphones and £250 worth of Sennheiser headphones.
Application forms for the contest will appear in the June issues of Play Music, Music Mart and Fly magazines and are available from any Sound Control store or the Sennheiser website.
"I see the contest as a way of genuinely trying to help bands and artists out there performing who don't fall into the category of manufactured pop idol currently so favoured by the major recording industry. This year we have a very strong team of partners working with us to make this year's event even better," said Sennheiser UK's director of sales and marketing, John Steven.
