Allen & Heath Steps Up Tempo At Selfridges Brazilian Carnival
Leading UK department chain, Selfridges, ran a series of cultural events to celebrate the vibrancy and excitement of Brazil at several of its main stores during May. The 'Brasil 40°' festival comprised an eclectic programme, including Brazilian music, demonstrations of Brazilian dance and the traditional Capoeira art form, as well as art exhibitions, fashion and food.
ACE PA LTD., in association with Manchester City Council, provided the sound system for Selfridges' Manchester branch events, employing its Allen & Heath ML3000 VCA console to manage sound reinforcement for all the acts and artists. Events included demonstrations by Brazilian chef, Dada, the Capoeira academy Cordão de Ouro, and a display of the incredible Futebol de Salão skills by the Brazilian Soccer School. There were also live performances by the Paraiso School of Samba dancers and the Brazilian singer and guitarist, Jair Oliveira, accompanied by a drummer, keyboard player and bass guitarist.
A 7kW JBL speaker system was used, along with Camco PA and monitoring amplifiers, Yamaha SPX990 and 900 effects units and EQ from Klark Technik DN360 graphics.
"The ML3000 provides acres of functionality for a compact touring desk. The band required individual monitor mixes, which we were able to provide from the FOH position due to dual functionality. The ML3000 was able to provide four aux sends for the band's four wedge monitors, plus an extra send for a mono side fill monitor mix. There was also a send available for the DJ - Mike Chadwick from Jazz FM - and a further two sends for the FOH effects. As usual, the mixer produced clear, clean sound with the VCA system making the job easy," commented Gary Jones, director of ACE PA Ltd.
