CLIC – Specialist Lighting Contractors at a Theatre and TV Studio Near You!

There are few more experienced electrical contracting engineers in the entertainment lighting business than Charlie Irvine and Fred Williams. Charlie is probably best known as the man behind the successful Strand Contracts department, where he and Fred cut their teeth, with many other industry 'names', on lighting and sound installations ranging from the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and BBC TV Centre to what appeared to be nearly every theatre, village hall and school in the British Isles over the last thirty years.

After the Strand days, and other reincarnations, Charlie Irvine and his company CLIC joined forces with A.J. Sibthorpe and Co Ltd based in Ilford to provide complementary electrical contracting services to Sibthorpe's core businesses within the building industry.

CLIC is now involved in a wide range of installations including the supply and installation of stage lighting, sound equipment, drapes and tracks. They also have been working in the TV sector on small studios for video and cable TV networks. As always, Charlie and Fred offer a wealth of experience to advise on the most appropriate solution for a client. As they are not tied to a manufacturer or main distributor of theatre lighting equipment, they are free to give independent advice to ensure the solution meets their client's exact requirement. CLIC's experience includes working with many new technologies, and they are currently advising installations on the use of sine wave dimming – the very latest dimming technology available which removes the traditional problems of harmonics and electrical interference – a problem close to all electrical contractor's hearts!

In addition to lighting systems, CLIC's services also include suspension equipment, grids and hoists, projection and screens, sound and comms, general lighting and power, emergency lighting, fire detection systems, electrical inspection and testing and regular maintenance and servicing. They are pleased to include the Ambassador Group, Cameron Macintosh and the The Really Useful Group amongst their regular client base which also includes many colleges and schools throughout the south of England.

As many industry insiders know from experience, electrical contracting for theatres and TV studios requires specialist knowledge of custom and practice, the latest regulations regarding places of public entertainment and that extra special knowledge and experience which separates the specialist from the tradesman.

And now it is under the umbrella of a major force in the building industry - A.J. Sibthorpe and Co Ltd - with a comprehensive group structure on which they can call for support with all building and project management resources, CLIC can now offer their clients a complete package of advice, supply and installation of lighting for entertainment.
