FX Rentals Invest in SSL Outboard
FX Rentals has become the first UK rental company to invest in SSL’s new outboard technology, purchasing two XLogic Channels and an XLogic Multichannel Compressor.
"We’re anticipating great demand for these new additions to our hire stock from people requiring the SSL sound who aren’t in an SSL room. In particular I imagine the DAW oriented engineers will find them extremely useful," says FX Group technical director Frank Oglethorpe. "There’s been a immense buzz around these units ever since they were announced."
The multichannel compressor has already been used by Queen’s engineer Justin Shirley-Smith at Sphere Studios on a surround sound remix of a concert by the band at the Milton Keynes Bowl. "It’s exactly what I've been waiting for and it sounds as good as it looks," says Shirley-Smith.
The XLogic Channel is derived from the XL 9000 K Series console and features identical DC-coupled SuperAnalogue processing. Features include the SuperAnalogue preamp with mic, line or instrument inputs, and switched gain; Twin-Curve Dynamics,G series and E series 'Twin-Curve' EQ and Variable Output Level, with switchable metering.
The XLogic Multichannel Compressor is a six-channel unit that draws on the classic SSL centre section compressor incorporating design elements within a SuperAnalogue design topology. This brings the dual benefits of spectacular surround audio performance with a universally acclaimed compressor characteristic.
"We're delighted that these outboard units are now available for rental in the UK," says SSL's UK sales manager Mike Banks. "The fact that FX has such a wide and diverse client base should ensure that they are adopted by a large cross section of the recording market."
