New Generation PA for Temporary Structures

Public address systems can often be challenging in large temporary structures, such as in a semi-permanent exhibition venue or art gallery. So when temporary structure specialists GL events Owen Brown won the prestigious contract to manage and co-ordinate the enormous SkillCity event at Salford Quays, Manchester, they called on leading event services company ESP to help them bring power, sound and some lighting to the colossal 50,000 square metres of temporary exhibition space that the event occupied.

SkillCity took place in one of Europe's largest purpose built temporary exhibition venues. When GL events Owen Brown first took over the site, it was quite literally waste land, to be transformed into a vocational skills event set to welcome over 25,000 visitors per day.

ESP's brief was to provide a general purpose PA system, to be used for both announcements and in an emergency situation if required. The system would need to be capable of operating independently across the vast range of exhibition halls, auditoria, catering outlets and even shops that Skill City encompassed, to allow for different announcements in different areas of the event.

The system ESP developed specifically for SkillCity can be split into 10 zones, featuring nearly 300 horns, and can be operated from four different locations. The system also allows for up to 250 pre-recorded timed announcements to be programmed, making onsite operations at an event of this size much smoother.

In addition, fire-proof cabling allows for the same system to be on stand by as an emergency evacuation system if required, featuring a digitally programmed evacuation command, to be given all around a venue.

This impressive system took ESP just two days to install at the Manchester site, and compares very favourably with most other tannoy systems available for hire on the market today. In every case ESP has invested heavily in top of the range, cutting edge products and technology, and the 100V line system is no exception, representing probably the largest, most technically advanced system available for hire.
