Urdd Eisteddfod 2004 Make It Big With Sunbaba

Sunbaba Screens provided the Austronet fabric used to create the giant 25m logo on a hillside, and the branded screens for the Urdd Gobaith Cymru National Eisteddfod Môn 2004.

The Urdd National Eisteddfod Môn 2004 took place this year at Anglesey Agricultural Showground at Mona, 31st May to 5th June. The week-long festival encompassed activities and competitions for children from across the country and attracted families for a half-term week filled with entertainment. Visitors enjoyed art, design and technology exhibitions, a funfair, a digital art workshop, master classes, sports, traditional Welsh activities and over 140 trade stands.

Sunbaba also provided Austronet screening material in the four different colours to produce the Urdd trianglar logo on the hillside facing the adjacent A55, which was created one week before the event. The huge emblem measured 25m across and required 1000m² of red, green, white and black material, pegged onto the ground could be seen from nearly a mile away from the site. The event and dates were printed on white Austronet, and displayed with the gigantic logo and could be read from the road.

The event featured 90 hours of live TV broadcast across the week, which added to the visual importance of the site. Sunbaba Screens produced a 27m long branded screen that was incorporated on the outside of the structure used as the backdrop for the outdoor TV recording. This was also the back stage, competitors changing, press and administrative office area.

A second structure, the main pavilion with 1500 seating capacity hadfull TV broadcast quality sound and lighting installed for the duration of the event and featured Austronet draped across the front in a bow, in the Urdd organisation colours.

Urdd National Eisteddfod’s field and business manager, Ian Carter commented: “Sunbaba were an obvious choice having seen samples of previous work and they turned it round very quickly once the design had been finalised. The Anglesey Agricultural Association, owners of the site were so impressed with the banner they asked us to leave it up there, as a memento of our event, during their annual show in August.”
