Academy Birmingham Upgrades With Marquee Audio
McKenzie Group (MKG) have called on Marquee Audio to carry out a further sound system upgrade to the audio infrastructure at its successful Midlands venue, Carling Academy Birmingham. Marquee has added extra Turbosound reinforcement to their existing system, enabling the Academy to offer a production-complete format for a Lower Hall format show, catering for audience capacities between 600-1250.
As a result of the upgrade, the Marquee FOH spec now includes: eight Turbosound TSW 718 subs and TFL 760 Floodlight; Soundcraft MH3 40-ch mixing desk; BSS Opal Dual 31-band graphic EQ; Drawmer DL 441 comp/limiters and DS-404 gates. Processing effects include TC Electronic M-One XL and D2 digital delay, Yamaha SPX 1000, Sony CDP Pro CD Player and Tascam 24-Bit DAT player.
The monitor system follows an equally high specification and includes Soundcraft MH3 32-ch mixing desk, six pairs of Martin LE400C passive/active wedges, Turbosound TXD 215 drum fill, a pair of Martin Blackline H3 side fills and further proprietary BSS, Behringer and TC Electronic processing, and stage effects (including industry standard mics).
A similar lighting upgrade has been carried out by Utopium (see separate news story).
Commenting on the new format, general manager Richard Maides says: “Our recent acquisition of further equipment from Marquee Audio will enable us to develop our successful multi-format site and provide greater flexibility for all our existing and future clients. We are now in a position to offer complete, in-house production for promoters in three of our four existing spaces.”
The investment now enables MKG’s Carling Academy Birmingham to present an affordable upgrade option for promoters using the Academy 2 format (600 capacity max) who wish to upgrade shows to the main Academy using the in-house services. “The new format now offers promoters another choice of venue in the Midlands when looking to promote in the 1000 capacity range”, adds Maides.
MKG can now offer a variety of venue formats and in-house productions at Birmingham, including Bar Academy (200 persons); Carling Academy 2 (200 - 600 persons); Carling Academy Lower Hall Format (600 - 1250 persons), and the full capacity of the main Academy at 2700 persons.
