Audio-Technica to Launch New Pro Series Range at PLASA

At this year’s PLASA Show Audio-Technica is launching its new, re-engineered Pro Series range of live performance and general production microphones. The range features three new models, three updated models, and improves further the already cost-competitive pricing of this product.

The new Pro Series features high performance specifications and benefits throughout from Audio-Technica’s stringent engineering and manufacturing standards. 11 different models include dynamic and condenser capsules, handheld, headset, clip mic and specialist instrument designs, and a new high quality stereo condenser mic.

The PRO61 is a new high performance, hypercardioid, dynamic vocal mic, featuring an extended frequency response, exceptional signal isolation and feedback rejection, and remarkable signal clarity. The PRO41 cardioid dynamic provides superb, full-range vocal reproduction and features superior internal shock mounting to suppress handling noise. The PRO31 is a high quality general cardioid dynamic, featuring superior sound quality and low handling noise. The PRO63 is a cardioid dynamic instrument microphone, featuring a hi-energy neodymium magnet structure and exceptionally rugged design, for all-round instrument pick-up, percussion and cab miking applications. The PRO25ax is specifically designed for extremely high SPL and low frequency signal handling, with good off axis rejection, highly effective mechanical dampening and versatile mounting options, providing ideal characteristics for kick drum, bass cab, brass and percussion. Re-engineered from the previous PRO25, it features improved design and a superior capsule providing improved signal response. The PRO37 is a classic small diaphragm condenser design, providing professional, studio quality signal resolution and exceptional transient response, whether miking solo acoustic instruments, ensembles, or percussion.

The PRO24 is a new stereo small condenser of exceptional quality. Its X/Y configured capsule, exceptional fidelity and lightweight design, makes it equally suitable for ‘fixed’ stereo reinforcement or recording, or for camera mounting. The PRO8Hex is an extremely lightweight, professional quality, dynamic headset mic with pivot-mounted boom and hypercardioid pick-up pattern, available with termination for UniPak wireless transmitters. The PRO70 is a miniature, high quality, cardioid condenser lavalier or instrument mic, with an improved, full sounding vocal and instrument pick-up response (a clip and guitar mount are included). A switchable low frequency roll-off, battery or phantom operation and fixed 1.8 m cable are features. The PRO35AX instrument clip mic is optimised for close-miking sax, brass, toms and percussion. A cardioid condenser design, a power module is included for battery operation and a UniMount clip permits accurate positioning and protects the capsule.

Audio-Technica is also exhibiting its highly successful new 5000 and 4000 Artist Elite wireless systems, for sound touring and theatre applications. Featuring true diversity, frequency agile, UHF operation, multiple transmitter and receiver configurations enable a diverse range of applications to be fulfilled. Multiple receivers from either series can be linked. Both series feature AT’s innovative Intelliscan frequency selection. Receiver Ethernet ports enable monitoring of system parameters via Macintosh or Windows software. Additional features include dual-band compansion and the ‘intelligent’ digital Tone Lock squelch system.

Also new to the Audio-Technica range is the AT898 ‘subminiature’ cardioid condenser lavalier microphone, being shown at PLASA for the first time. This joins the AT899 ‘subminiature’ omni-directional condenser lavalier in a new Broadcast and Production range of lavalier, handheld, boundary and shotgun models, designed for broadcast and theatre and event production applications. Both these models provide superior sound quality from a microphone just five mm in diameter. Available in black or beige skin tone, features include a switchable low frequency roll-off switch, phantom or battery power operation and a range of optional terminations.

The Engineered Sound series of rigid-pipe and gooseneck installation microphones includes the latest ‘dual-element’ models. The ES993 and ES995 rigid-pipe and ES991 gooseneck, cardioid condenser models all feature dual capsule arrangements for applications where separate mic feeds are required for reinforcement and broadcast, recording or remote locations. The ES series provides unparalleled quality and versatility for presentation and conferencing installations.

The new Midnight Blues series of vocal and instrument microphones, offers some of the most high quality, value for money musicians’ microphones available. Launched at this year’s Winter NAMM, they feature high output signal and low handling noise, rugged all-metal construction and A-T anti-shock engineering.
