Doughty Helps to ‘Light Up’ Olympic Opening Ceremony

When the 2004 Olympic Opening Ceremony in Greece gets under way in August, winch lighting stands from Doughty Engineering of Ringwood will help to illuminate the proceedings. A number of Doughty Zenith 620T units will be used to mount stage lighting.

These are four section telescopic ‘mast’ style stands, which rise to an impressive 6.1 metres when fully extended. They feature a unique self-locking system and are designed for single person operation to reduce rigging and relocation time. The built-in winch makes raising and lowering simple and at full stretch these stands can handle a weight of up to 200 kg. Finished in crackle black powder coating, they are designed to merge into dark backgrounds.

The stands supplied for the Olympics have been fitted with two-metre diameter, tow castor bases with a ‘turnbuckle’ feature allowing them to be used on uneven or sloping ground. Since the masts are constructed using four sections, ‘loading’ height is only 1.9 metres, yet another plus to help minimise rigging time. They also accept standard 28mm TV spigots extending the flexibility of their use considerably.
