ELP To Open New Distribution Centre
Business expansion and increased regional activity across the UK are the driving forces behind ELP’s imminent unveiling of a new 60,000 sq.ft distribution centre on the Alconbury Airfield near Huntingdon.
Based at their Elstree head office, ELP provides an ever-increasing range of lighting and production support services for television, live events, theatre and major corporate shows. Innovators within the lighting industry for over 26 years, the company is continually adding to its stock of fixed and moving lights, power distribution systems, TV silent generators, mobile production vehicles, trussing, and rigging hardware.
“Access to this new facility in Alconbury will mean that we can continue to ramp up the volume and diversity of our stock without worrying about space,” comments managing director Ronan Willson. He adds: “Inside the new building we will be able to test build complete rigs. It’s over 13m high with a load bearing roof and masses of power. Every aspect of preparing, servicing and operating hire stock will be more efficient as a result of the space in and around the hangar. These increased efficiencies will really benefit our clients.”
With over two acres of storage yard, the new site will comfortably accommodate ELP’s expanding vehicle fleet and provide an abundance of space for outdoor storage, loading and parking.
The Huntingdon area is a thriving business centre with many specialist engineering and support services available. ELP’s building is particularly high spec as they used to house the A10 Tankbuster aircraft there until a few years ago. Located at the intersection between the A1(M) and the A14, the site has excellent transport links with London and the rest of the UK.
Ronan Willson explained that it was the need to have access to good transport links within the UK that drew his attention to Alconbury. “Increasingly we are working on productions throughout the UK. The Midlands, Northern England and Wales are particularly busy regions and I wanted to make sure that our new distribution hub was best placed to service clients in these areas whilst still being only an hour from London,” he said.
He concluded: “We will remain highly visible and accessible within the M25 as our head office site at Elstree continues to be main administrative centre. Dry hire delivery and collection will operate as usual from here and our rapid response service to London will be unaffected.”
