Froger at The Amsterdam Arena 2004 ‘In The Round’

The greatest living room in Europe was the mandate for what the set should look like (including chandeliers, TV screens and carpet on the floor). The production company, Sightline, and lighting designer Henk Jan van Beek came up with a massive ground support system to hang all video, lighting, sound, and scenic equipment. They used 12 long trusses above the ego-ramps and the audience to complete the huge set.
The total equipment count consisted of: 112 Vari*Lite VL5 Arcs, 54 Vari*Lite VL5s, 36 Vari*Lite VL2416s, 48 Vari*Lite VL2416s with no diffuser, 162 Vari*Lite VL2Cs, seven Vari*Lite VL3000 wash luminaires, 210 DWE single molefays, 210 EML MR-16 light battens, 40 Altman Zip strips, 48 8-lite MoleFays, 48 4-bar Par 64 narrows, 60 4-bar Par 64 ACLs, 600m of Showtec LED tube, three Flying Pig Hog 3 consoles, seven Flying Pig Systems DP2000s, 5 ELC dmxLAN node4s, a Super WYG 5000, and two WYG 2000s.
Given the time frames for this event and the little time allocated for cueing in the venue, WYSIWYG was chosen to allow for accurate pre-cueing offsite. As a result of the challenges of working ‘in the round’, there were eight dimmer cities. Tenfeet used the ELC dmxLAN software to flawlessly transport the 18 DMX lines over the ELC network. The ELC nodes performed perfectly despite the size of the installation. The option to merge DMX-lines was used frequently. The same ELC nodes were used to convert all the data from the three Hog 3s into the three separate WYSIWYG systems.
Tenfeet supplied the WYG systems. In one week programmers Jaco Alblas, Remco Angenent and Rik Schoutsen put in all the cues for the 30-song-show from Froger and the 40th anniversary of broadcast company Tros. This was done in Tenfeet’s own 3D studio, using one WYSIWYG Perform 5000 and two WYSIWYG Perform 2000’s.
The LDs took advantage of the new ‘Auto-Focus’ connectivity between the Hog 3 and Cast’s WYSIWYG, allowing them to cue the show much faster than by conventional means. The new Flying Pig Hog 3 1.3.6 console software had just come out with Auto-focus support around the time that programming started. The three Hog 3 consoles along with four fader wings performed superbly and were very stable during the programming of the show. Jaco, Remco and Rik were very happy about the new software and the stability of the whole platform.
Onsite, a spare console was used with a wireless access point on the arena floor to focus the lights and check the rig. This had to be done this way as the lighting FOH was on the 7th floor.
