HK Audio Introduces IL Line Weatherproof Finish
German pro audio manufacturer HK Audio has announced it is to start offering its acclaimed IL Installation Line cabinets in a new weather-resistant version. The existing IL units will be re-treated to protect them against moisture and spray water so that they can be installed outdoors under roofing and in continuously moisture-prone rooms.
Treated IL cabinets will be available in two versions: protected against occasional spray water or protected against continued moisture, such as under stadium roofing, near swimming pools, etc.
For these versions, the following treatments are applied: the inside of the housing will be completely covered with lacquer and screws for flying frames, drive-in nuts, etc., are not removed, but are also lacquer coated. The outside of the housing is then covered with a second lacquer layer, leading to a more comprehensive lacquer protection structure. The internal crossover circuit board is covered with clear varnish on both sides then mounted with stainless steel screws. The connector plate is sealed towards the housing with silicon, and again the connector screws are stainless steel. The speaker diaphragm is impregnated with a specially prepared water resistant compound and the front grille is attached with stainless steel screws.
Additional measures for continuous exposure to moisture and water spray involves all screws, including the speaker retention screws, being stainless, and the stainless steel front grille is also powder coated.
Due to the extra costs involved in the weather protection treatment, an additional premium is applied above the cost of the standard HK Audio IL units.
