Sennheiser at PLASA 2004

Sennheiser UK is exhibiting again at the PLASA show, from 12th to 15th September at Earls Court. With an increased range of leading brands, the stand promises to be the largest and most exciting yet, with new products from Sennheiser, Rane, D.A.S., Lab.gruppen, Adamson, NetCIRA, APart, Anchor and Rycote. This year’s stand will also be ‘digitally networked’ using NetCIRA, to show how the system works and allowing demonstrations of other products via the network system. The network will also link to other major stands within the PLASA show.

With the focus on value for money, the brand new evolution 800 and 600 series is a new generation of wired mics that puts Sennheiser sound quality within reach of everyone who needs to be heard. The e800 and e600 series is a complete range with vocal and instrument mics for bands, soloists, and presenters, whether you’re DJ’ing, doing a large concert, or addressing the village horticultural society in the church hall you can now have Sennheiser quality and reliability within your budget.

Designed for demanding, uncompromising professional use, Sennheiser´s e900 series takes microphone sound quality a step closer to perfection and now, increased to 11 models in the range, it offers a choice for a wide range of vocal and instrument applications for those simply looking for the best. Adding flexibility for users who want the sound of the e935 and e945 but who want to go wireless, the capsules for these mics can now be used with any evolution G2 handheld transmitter.

Sennheiser’s recently introduced evolution G2 wireless systems offer a level of advanced features and facilities including: Up to 1440 tuneable frequencies, Pilot tone squelch and the use of double AA batteries or a rechargeable battery option. With more professional features, and greater value for money, there are systems for every conceivable application, whether for vocals, instruments, presentations, camerawork or wireless monitoring - the five evolution wireless G2 lines offer a top-class system for every purpose.

Rane will be highlighting the new Serato Scratch LIVE, the ultimate software and hardware solution for bridging the analogue world of vinyl and the digital world of computer audio files. The Scratch LIVE interface connects almost any computer to an ordinary pair of turntables (or CD players), and the software faithfully tracks every subtle movement of the stylus on the included control records. The same movement is then instantly applied to any digital audio file in the user's collection producing a sound and feel that is indistinguishable from vinyl. The Scratch LIVE package includes an extremely rugged, portable, high quality, bus-powered USB audio device, featuring two software switchable stereo phono or line inputs, a microphone input, two line outputs and pass-through for all inputs.

Also new from Rane is a complete range of digital live sound tools comprising the DEQ-60L stereo 31 band graphic with long throw faders, the DEQ-60 stereo 31 band graphic, the G4 4-channel quad gate / ducker / expander, the MM42 in-ear monitoring processor, the PEQ-55 stereo parametric equaliser and the AC-24 stereo 4-way crossover. Each of the new products offers the user familiar ‘analogue-type control’, but with full digital processing behind the interface.

Following-up on the successful worldwide launch of the Aero-28 compact line array systems, D.A.S. is now introducing a large format, full-range line array system, the Aero-48, which will be show for the first time in the UK at PLASA. D.A.S. will also be introducing a completely new range of high power H Series amplifiers to drive Aero-48 and other large-system loudspeakers.

Also new at PLASA are the DS passive and active series. Both ranges combine design with function, achieving products that redefine the meaning of reliability, sound quality and efficiency in compact sound reinforcement enclosures. Their unique design permits tripod mounting and attachment to walls or ceilings using optional rigging hardware that facilitates permanent installation. The use of structural polypropylene in tandem with comprehensive wall reinforcement provides for enclosures that are not only durable, but also exhibit superior acoustic properties for sound that is natural and transparent. In either active or passive formats, the DS series are especially appropriate in clubs, discos, gymnasiums, general PA, or any application that requires sound reinforcement in a lightweight, compact enclosure.

PLASA will be the worldwide launch for a brand new range of Lab.gruppen amplifiers. Benefiting from experience in the international top-end touring market with the fP Series, the new range will offer a new level of performance and technology for installations. Initial models will be 4-channel with a range of powers up to 4 x 1000W into 4Ů. In addition to all of the features you would expect from Lab.gruppen, the new range will include an integrated network option - a new solution to monitoring and control of the amplifiers via a PC. The system is designed to be simple and reliable with no individual addressing of units required, safe and informative and with redundancy built in. There will also be a further option of advanced DSP functionality for loudspeaker processing, and CobraNet digital audio interface.

From Adamson, leaders in large format line array technology, comes SpekTrix. This compact line array offers Adamson sound quality, reliability and ease-of-use, whilst its modest styling and compact size makes it perfect for use in small theaters, clubs and houses of worship. To provide high SPL extended bass to Adamson SpekTrix line array cabinets, the SpekTrix Sub is the first Adamson enclosure to introduce Convertible Cardioid Technology, and is a single-sided box that can be arrayed conventionally (all facing the same way) or can be arrayed in back-to-front pairs for true cardioid performance.

Sennheiser will be showing the full range of NetCIRA network audio products which utilise EtherSound technology to distribute 64 channels of high-quality audio over standard Ethernet switches and CAT5 cabling. As mentioned the stand will be wired with a full network, demonstrating the system in use. NetCIRA products have a very, very low latency which, in terms of human hearing, mean that “real time” distribution of audio is possible and it is possible to exactly calculate the overall latency of a design, making it ideal for any networking or audio distribution application.

APart’s range of cost-effective installation electronics and loudspeakers has been expanded to include the CM6SF, a dual-cone metal ceiling speaker with a metal fire dome. The loudspeaker is provided with a ceramic connector and thermal fuse and a high quality 6-Watt 100V transformer. The CM6SF is BS5839 and IEC60849 compliant and is ideal for paging and BGM applications with voice evacuation.

Anchor are launching a new Explorer Pro, portable PA system. For use with crowds of up to 800 the Explorer Pro offers a wide range of features including: True AC/DC, 110/220V Power Supply, one or two wireless receivers with 16 user-selectable channels, operation from a 12V power source - such as car power port, LED displays for battery level and charge condition, high-efficiency amplifier and full-range speaker system for high fidelity sound, ‘voice over’ music feature, two universal input jacks and 110 dB @ 1 metre. Sennheiser UK will also be introducing competitive new pricing for the Explorer Pro at PLASA.

Rycote’s new Modular Windshield is based on the design which has made Rycote the world-leader in microphone windshielding, but new levels of refinement and engineering further reduce noise whilst making the system faster and simpler to use. The Modular Windshields also have new Windjammers in matching rationalized size ranges, which give outstanding protection from windnoise in the worst of conditions.
