Slingco Install Largest Single Frame Cablenet at Wales Millennium Centre

Slingco Ltd., manufacturers of the Cablenet Virtual Floor system, have completed the installation of a record-breaking, single frame Cablenet at the new £104 million Wales Millennium Centre now nearing completion on Cardiff Bay waterfront.

   The Cablenet, measuring 20 x 18m and weighing over six tonnes, is the largest single frame floor of its kind and has been installed in the rehearsal room/studio theatre to provide access to rigging beams for up to four technicians at a time. The contract also involved the construction and installation of staircases and three standard technical galleries.

   Slingco’s tension wire grid systems are being specified for a growing number of high-profile arts and performance venues, including Perth Concert Hall, Hampstead Theatre, London, and Bridgewater Hall in Manchester.

   These permanent, high-level structures are virtually invisible from ground level and cast no shadow from lighting rigs positioned above. Most importantly of all, they’re strong enough to carry the weight of sound and lighting engineers, and provide the perfect platform for riggers to rig through.

   The Wales Millennium Centre, which opens at the end of November this year, will be one of the world’s leading venues for opera, ballet, dance and music. As well as hosting visiting performers, it will be home to seven resident organisations including the Dance Company of Wales, Welsh National Opera, and theatre company, Hijinx.
