W-DMX – Wireless DMX Solution by Radio
W-DMX is a new standard for wireless DMX developed by Swedish company Wireless Solution AB.
Most of the systems in use today for sending wireless DMX are based on converting DMX to Ethernet and sending through W-LAN 802.11. “By using the W-LAN standard it can easily be interfered by other W-LAN and Bluetooth products, and the system can get complicated with IP and Netmask settings for the user,” say Wireless Solution. “The W-DMX standard through radio offers compact size solutions that are plug-and-play with a price ratio far better then all other wireless products on the market. Most important they are interference-free from other products in the 2.45 GHz band.”
All products use PCB transceivers for two-way communication and are prepared for DMX512A and RDM. By using a radio control channel in the system it’s also ready for wireless software updates and all settings needed for control of the system such as encryption level and finding new receivers automatically. The system can control up to 8192 receivers from one transmitter.
The receivers are available in three different models: Standard, Deluxe and Deluxe outdoor. The standard receiver is a perfect solution for event lighting and one off gig. It’s small and lightweight and works on distance up to 30 kilometres from the transmitter. The Deluxe version has a built-in UPS that cover power loss for 6-8 hours and battery charger that automatically re-charges the battery if needed. Deluxe Outdoor version is the same model as Deluxe but with IP54 class and IP65 on request. This version is well-suited for architectural situations outdoor and long-term use in rain and snow.
There are four standard transmitters and the only difference between these units is how many universes they are able to control. The models are one universe (512 Ch), four universes (2048 Channels), eight universes (4096 Channels) and sixteen universes (8192 Channels). In addition. there is also a unit called Blackbox. This unit is a plug-and-play unit with no settings and with auto configuration for one universe with 512 Channels.
All transmitters have a menu control system with a LCD screen for easy navigation. Through the menu it’s possible to control the DMX universe settings, encryption, signal quality and more. The transmitter also has DMX through to an extra DMX out - for example to route by DMX cable to smoke machines or other products.
Both the transmitter and the receivers have many optional accessories available. There are more then 10 different antennas depending on which situation, such as indoor, outdoor, line of sight and more. There are also ready-made cables, boosters and transceivers - all you need to make a successful use of the Wireless Solutions W-DMX.
