Color Kinetics at PLASA

Color Kinetics debut the first generation of its highly anticipated family of intelligent white LED-based products – bringing sophisticated control to the many diverse applications of white light.
Light System Manager 1.6 is the ‘next generation’ of LED system control. It is an integrated software/hardware solution engineered to cost effectively and easily manage, author, and control large-scale installations of LED-based systems via Ethernet, exceeding the limitations of today’s lighting programming and network protocols. Light System Manager is comprised of two components: Light System Composer and Light System Engine.
Light System Composer is a software application that dramatically reduces the time and guesswork involved in designing intricate and previously unattainable effects, including color-changing swirls, bursts, logos and complex animated effects. The latest version of the software (1.6) features the following enhancements: the ability to import a still image; to scroll a still image up, down, left, right and diagonally; Ethernet keypad support - ability to connect multiple keypads to one installation; the ability to rotate maps clockwise and counter clockwise; new graphical interface - supports third-party hardware for DMX triggering.
Light System Engine is an Ethernet-based hardware controller that stores and plays a large quantity of light show effects based on time of day and event scheduling.
iColor Module FX is a new lighting medium in the form of a 6” (15.2 cm) square ‘building block’ for a variety of designs and projects that call for singularly controllable points of light, ranging from interior surface designs, to backlit fabrics, to three-dimensional objects. The modular unit incorporates 9 or 36 tri-color LED nodes, mounted on a printed circuit board, and driven by Color Kinetics’ custom Chromasic microchip. The simple through holes and board-to-board connectors provide versatility for mounting -- whether the units are positioned apart or conjoined to form grids and customized shapes. Applications range from simple, color-changing effects to more intricate designs and animations that require the refined level of detail made possible by individually controlled LED nodes – including scrolling text, images and video.
iColor MR g2 (pictured) is an intelligent, color-changing lamp that generates saturated bursts of color from most standard MR 16 fixtures and sockets. A higher intensity evolution of Color Kinetics’ popular iColor MR, it facilitates both new and retrofit installations – bringing the aesthetic and practical benefits of solid-state light sources to existing installations and lighting environments. iColor MR g2 is well suited for wide-ranging applications, including architectural, display and retail environments where MR 16 fixtures and track lighting are commonly used. With its higher output and wider beam distribution, iColor MR g2 extends the design possibilities of its predecessor – from direct-view points of light to special accents for custom-designed MR 16 fixtures. It features standard MR 16 bi-pin connectors and a sleek housing with matte chrome finish.
ColorCast 14 is a sleek, linear 13.5” (34.3 cm) system with maximized intensity for evenly distributed lighting effects and custom digital power processing technology for greater operational efficiency. ColorCast 14 is ideally suited for washing large-scale alcoves, archways, and up to 15’ (4.6 m) walls with rich, saturated color and dynamic lighting effects. ColorCast 14 accepts a universal power input range from100 to 240VAC, 50/60 Hz, which facilitates the installation of many units in a continuous run without the need for external power/data supplies. ColorCast 14 is available with over-molded, end-to-end locking connectors or in a conduit-ready version. Rated for use in dry, wet and damp environments.
Launched at PLASA 2003 and now shipping is the iColor Tile FX – a sophisticated, tile-like system that applies Chromasic technology to individually control 144 tri-color LED nodes for unprecedented effects and installations in dry, wet and damp environments. The 2’ by 2’ (60 by 60 cm) panel enables intricate designs for wide-ranging applications – from one decorative wall accent to an integrated, multi-panel installation. The fine-grained control of each LED node translates to whole new possibilities for creating images with light. iColor Tile FX is designed for recess and surface mounting, and is ideal for retrofitting ceiling tiles and surfaces, or architectural wall designs.
Also now shipping is iColor Flex SL is a a multi-purpose, LED-based strand that applies Chromasic technology to generate extraordinary effects that can span thousands of controllable light nodes without the constraints of fixture size, shape or space. Each iColor Flex SL strand is comprised of 50 individually addressable, tri-color nodes that are spaced in 4” (10.2 cm), 12” (30.5 cm), or custom-sized increments up to 12” on center. iColor Flex SL is available as an independent system, a “building block” for large, multi-system installations, or as a component for custom fixtures -- providing an alternative to existing fixtures that are confined by shape, space, and installation requirements.
