d&b audiotechnik Performs at the BRIT School
As the UK's only free Performing Arts and Technology School, The BRIT School is dedicated to education and vocational training for the performing arts, media, art and design and the technologies that make performance possible. The school caters for students in the 14-19 year age range who are specifically seeking a career in the performing arts. Funded by the British Record Industry Trust and the Department for
Education and Skills, the school also has a number of major industry sponsors and prides itself on producing top quality graduates, many of whom go on to become key players in the industry.
When the need for a new sound system arose, well-known sound designer Derrick Zeiba was asked to make an assessment. "We were really fortunate to have the input of a leading professional like Derrick," said Andrew Smith, the School's technical manager. "He was so generous with his time and expertise that we feel really comfortable about the outcome. He suggested we consider a d&b audiotechnik system."
After researching various options, and consulting with d&b's John Taylor, the school purchased a d&b C7 System with E3's, MAX loudspeakers for monitoring and D12's and E-PACs providing amplification. "There really was no other choice," said Smith. "d&b are considered to be a standard in musical theatre, and they provided us with a good solution which fitted within our budget."
The system, sponsored by the British Record Industry Trust and supplied by leading audio specialists Entec Sound & Light, will be used in a variety of configurations for dance and musical theatre productions, which will be designed by the students themselves. "The school does a great job in preparing young artists and technicians for the future," said Entec's Dick Hayes. "It is a pleasure to be associated with such a project."
What better way to end than to quote from the school's own website as an example of the close support and co-operation between the school and the industry: "We have formidable resources to allow students to study in sophisticated environments equivalent to a modern workplace. BRIT stands for the British Record Industry Trust. Without the generosity of the record industry, the school would never have been built and our superb facilities would never have been installed. Furthermore we greatly benefit from the advice and support given to students and staff from our wide range of friends in the music and wider arts industries."
