Scene Change at PLASA 2004

Scene Change, specialists in digital media for the entertainment industry, will be at this year's PLASA Show in London - where they will launch new members of the popular, acclaimed Hippotizer digital media server family.

Since its launch at PLASA 2003, the Hippotizer range has proved enormously popular across the entire field of live entertainment lighting, from clubs around the world to spectacular events such as Strange Poetry in Los Angeles and large scale theatrical productions such as the forthcoming Mary Poppins in Bristol.

Though full details won't be revealed until the show, the new Hippotizer range will offer three models offering from four to eight layers of video playback plus a master layer giving overall control of the final image - an invaluable control missing from some other media servers. A variety of control systems will be supported, including DMX or ArtNet control from lighting consoles, MIDI or RS232 control from other devices, direct control from a touchscreen or dual-deck 'VJ'-style control. HD video output options will be available, and the new family will be based on new hardware with hardware accelerated graphics DSPs giving dramatic speed improvements over the current Hippotizer range.

"The current Hippotizer range has proved hugely popular," comments Scene Change's Nigel Sadler. "The new range is designed to meet the ever more complex demands of those working in the video field, with faster hardware and more playback and effects possibilities. The new Hippotizer family will play almost any file that can be read by Windows Media Player, including Windows media, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and DV files, including video and audio. And one of the range will offer an interesting new approach to locating the media server...."

As well as the Hippotizer, Scene Change will also be showing the beaMover moving video projector, also currently in use on Mary Poppins, as well as material from its extensive and ever-growing video library.

The 2004 PLASA Show runs from September 12th-15th at Earl's Court in London; Scene Change can be found on stand A72. Scene Change's Nigel Sadler will also be presenting the 'Creative Possibilities of Visual Media' workshop, taking place at 12.30pm on Monday September 13th, which will provide an introduction to the possibilities offered by digital media in the live entertainment industry.
