ETC Announces Winners of SmartFade Consoles
Hundreds of showgoers entered ETC’s Daily Draw contest at PLASA 2004, hoping to win one of ETC’s brand new SmartFade compact lighting control consoles. ETC drew one winner from each day of the show and has now announced the names of the lucky individuals.
Sunday’s draw saw Krisjanis Berzins, a freelance lighting designer from Dublin, as the first winner of the console, which is worth over £800. Krisjanis, who is currently designing a touring system for the Mexican guitar duo, Rodrigo y Gabriella, said that SmartFade will be perfect for controlling the dramatic and dynamic video images he plans to use.
Hugo Van De Graaf, the second winner, was riding the London Eye when ETC’s Miranda Hunt called him with the good news. Hugo, the managing director of Movingheadquarters, Holland, said: “ I am delighted to have won the SmartFade console and plan to use it at our rental facility, as we will be one of the first in the Netherlands to stock it.” Hugo also plans to utilise SmartFade’s seamless and sophisticated backup facility for any DMX512 lighting console for his own productions.
Simon Payne, assistant administrator at the volunteer organisation, Intimate Theatre, was Tuesday’s winner and SmartFade will greatly save money on hire costs for their various charity productions. On top of this, because the console is designed to give users of all abilities the wherewithal to programme a lighting show, everyone that uses the theatre can and will benefit from the prize. Relying solely on charitable contributions to buy equipment, Simon said: “It’s exciting to be able to use such up-to-date technology.”
Chris Howells, senior technician at the Beck Theatre in Middlesex, was the final winner of an ETC SmartFade console and feels that it will be the ideal for use at the theatre. They are currently working on a variety of productions and SmartFade’s 288 memories will help planning, ensuring that one night productions look like resident shows.
