Rich Soul Voices Blended Through d&b

To make this year’s summer a little hotter Tchibo, the German coffee company invited three legendary soul ladies to form a comeback on stages in Hamburg, Munich and Oberhausen. Whitney Houston was of course star of the show - in the mid-eighties her five octave voice brought her devastating chart successes including ‘Saving all my love for you’ followed in the nineties with big screen appearances.

The Soul Divas tour was a wonderful occasion to bring her astounding voice live to her fans for the first time since 1999. Certainly no less remarkable was the re-appearance of her cousin Dionne Warwick, the Burt Bacherach voice of the swinging sixties, and Nat King Cole’s daughter Nathalie who had turned her father’s jazz songs into nineties pop hits. No wonder this melange of rich soul voices had sold out crowds at Hamburg’s Color Line Arena, the Olympia Hall in Munich and the Kvnig Pilsener Arena in Oberhausen.

For these German summer soul events a total of 100 d&b audiotechnik loudspeakers in various configurations were supplied and rigged by Yousound Showtechnik of Augsburg, Germany, ensuring clear, faithful reproduction of the Divas brilliant performances. “We chose d&b equipment for this tour simply because we re sure that they would make a perfect working platform for this type of job,” said Stefan Heinicke, Yousound’s director. “We find the d&b equipment to be very versatile. It allows us to do small or large shows because the speakers are fantastically flexible,” he continued.

Yousound’s own expert, Bernd Dimbeck, designed the sound system by flying and placing d&b C3s, C4-TOPs and SUBs along with B2 subwoofers for the main PA system, while Q1s provided the delay. C7-TOPs and C4-SUBs acted as front fills with C4 TOPs and SUBs giving side fill, with the entire set up being powered by d&b’s D12 amplifiers.

Yousound, who are supplying an incredible 860 shows around Europe this year, rely on two main factors in order to deliver high quality work and still stay in step with this incredibly demanding schedule. “We use the best equipment available as a reliable working tool that can be rigged and de-rigged really quickly and of course a dedicated high quality work force who know how to bring it to life,” boasted Stefan Heinicke.

After having started the show with solo performances, the Divas further entranced the audience with powerful duets, to conclude the shows with a threesome version of ‘That’s What Friends Are For’.
