Anthony Easterbrook

We have been informed of the death of Anthony (Tony) Easterbrook, who died over Christmas at his home. The sadness was compounded by the fact that his wife, Molly, had herself died in hospital on Christmas Eve.

Joe Aveline writes: “Most will remember Tony as stage director of Sadler's Wells Opera - a most imposing formally dressed figure in the prompt corner - or as general manager of the National Theatre. As one who worked there at the time I can say that it was really helpful to have someone from the technical disciplines at the very heart of the upper management.

"Tony succeeded Fred Bentham as chairman of the ABTT and served for six years in that capacity. Following the National Theatre he worked as a consultant and in recent years concentrated on lighting churches.

“All of us who worked with him will remember a man who could infuriate you, get his way, but make you smile at the same time. A class act.”
