InnovaSON SY80 Chosen For Faithless Tour

Monitor engineer Dave Davies has been a convert to InnovaSON since he first encountered their consoles on a David Gray tour three years ago. He’s worked with most InnovaSON desks from the Grand Live up, and is a big fan of the Sy80.
“It’s a very user-friendly console,” says Davies. “It’s easy to use, and I like the fact that there are no multiple layers, as this means it is very simple and fast, which is important on a show like this, which has lots of cues. I really like the ability to programme the desk before the show. And the sound is great: what goes in comes out sounding right.”
Davies runs around 50 inputs into 18 mixes, using separate pages for each song, and automation for the drummer and percussion player, who rely on lots of samples. The vocalists, guitar player, bass player and keyboard player are mixed live throughout the show.
He also uses the onboard EQ, keeping racks equipment to a minimum. Combined with the console’s small footprint this is a big advantage, especially given that Faithless tend to go on stage later than most conventional rock bands, with load-outs not starting until the early hours of the morning.
Prior to the UK tour, Faithless have been on the road since the summer festival season, playing across Asia, Australia and Europe – with InnovaSON all the way.
