Liquid Lets the Geni out of the Bottle

The new effects, both distributed by Ian Kirby’s Lighting Effects Distribution, made their debut at Luminar’s new Liquid in Harlow this month. Three of the MOS 700’s on the dancefloor perimeter joined forces with the main artillery of floor lighting, which also included five Coemar iCycs — all run off ShowCAD.

The second room in the 940-capacity former Millennium in Harlow town centre, is dominated by Marveon, which provides the arms over the riveting dancefloor.

Said the venue’s technical manager Sky Jones: “We are the first Liquid to have the new Geni fixtures and they are very effective. It’s a versatile scanner with a variation of speeds, gobos and strobing effects, and integrates well within the overall lightshow.”

And general manager, James Hall, added: “The Geni MOS 700 is a unique effect, and looks stunning in white.”

Adding his praise for the Geni was LIS contracts manager, Rhys Jenkins. “The thing about these fixtures is that they throw a lot of light, and with three of them you can shutter and chase as well as produce some nice static effects.”

The MOS 700 automated fixtures combine scanner and moving head technology to create a faster unit from a 700W HTI lamp. Aside from the hybrid nature of the technology the various colour options of the outer plastic casing offer all kinds of potential for interior designers.

Rhys adds that the Marveon effect also looks impressive — used as fingers in different length runs in conjunction with pinspots. “It is very bright and produces some nice multi-colour chasing effects, which is more dynamic than straight colour-changing,” he observes. The mains-powered LED tube, contains a dense array of RGB LEDs arranged in individual pixels.

Playing a wide range of music within the two rooms, Liquid Harlow is open from Thursday to Sunday. The new interior was conceived by Core Design and the sound system was installed by CVA.
