Meyer Sound Line Array Weekend in Norway

The first weekend of December was one of the busiest of 2004 for Norway’s leading audio company, Avab CAC. Over 160 boxes of their Meyer Sound line array inventory were employed at different locations for the first dates of two major tours and various one-off events.

The 3,500 capacity Stavanger Tennis Court played host to the first date in the tour for three of Norway’s most famous artists: Morten Abel, Bertine Setlitz and Lene Marlin. Avab CAC provided a system comprising 16 MILO high-power curvilinear array loudspeakers, two MILO 120 expanded coverage high-power curvilinear array cabinets and 12 M3D-Sub directional subwoofers for what was dubbed “Concert of the Year” by Norway’s Grammy Award winners.

Platinum-selling artist, Sissel, started her sold out Christmas tour of Norway at Oslo Spektrum with the Trondheim Chamber Orchestra, and the Norwegian Girls’ Choir alongside special guest Peter Jöback. Sissel is Norway’s best selling recording artist and the tour, which sold more than 25,000 tickets as soon as they went on sale, received rave reviews from Norway’s media. Here, Avab CAC used a system consisting of 24 M3D line array cabinets, 24 M2D compact curvilinear array boxes and eight M3D-Sub subwoofers.

The 100-year anniversary of the Norwegian Veritas was held at the new Norwegian Trade Fairs complex in Lillestrøm. Veritas, a large Norwegian international company, invited some 3,500 of their employees to an anniversary dinner and show in the Trade Fairs’ 120 meter by 80 meter hall. The event featured a stage at either end of the hall, which can be tricky in terms of managing overlapping coverage, but the situation posed an even greater challenge: in addition to each stage’s individual coverage requirements, a surround mode for the entire room was also needed. Avab CAC’s solution was to use a system comprising 32 M3D line array loudspeakers, 16 M3D-Subs, 26 M2D cabinets, and 12 M1D units to provide the necessary coverage. “This was a giant task,” comments Avab CAC’s Asle Nilsen. “But it all went fantastically and the feedback from the audience, promoter and, of course, artist was amazing.”

Finally, an M1D system was used for a series of small concerts organized by Rikskonsertene, a Norwegian national resource that supports local communities with a programme of music in many diverse genres.

“In total, we had some 54 M3Ds, 24 M3D-Subs, 50 M2Ds, 18 MILOs, eight 700-HP (ultrahigh-power subwoofers) and 28 M1Ds working during the weekend,” concludes Nilsen. “I would say it was definitely a Meyer Sound line array weekend in Norway!"
