PSL Re-Launches Music Division and Targets Touring Market
The Presentation Services Group (PSL) has re-launched its dedicated music division, to be known as PSL Music. Two well-known video specialists, Pod Bluman and Richard Shipman, have been recruited to run the operation, which will particularly target the live music touring and events markets.
Following a major restructuring exercise in 2004, PSL is now one of the UK's largest rental provider of technical staging services, and PSL Music has an exceptional inventory of video equipment including digital portable production units and Triax camera systems, hi-power video projectors, video playback, indoor and outdoor LED screens. PSL can also supply lighting and a range of sound reinforcement systems.
Pod Bluman has extensive industry experience in a wide array of disciplines, from touring and large-scale corporate shows, including the massive Vodafone Ball, to so-called 'guerilla projection' events. Shipman toured as a video director for eight years, with acts like the Smashing Pumpkins, David Bowie and The Stereophonics, before joining Black Pig Productions and advising industry events such as The Brits and the MTV Europe Music Awards.
Apart from the expertise of its senior personnel, one of PSL Music's strengths will be the extent of the in-house resources, such as video edit suites, at PSL's substantial HQ in Potters Bar. A new video and lighting programming suite has been created, providing a dedicated area for pre-production, with Wholehog 2 console, projectors and large screen, Catalyst and Radlite media services, and a DMX-controllable vision mixer.
"We're a complete, full-service video house," says Bluman, "from concept and design to editing and production with LED screens, projectors, cameras, vision mixing and more. The company currently carries all of these items in rental stock but whatever brand of screen, for example, an LD or production manager wants, they will be able to source it from us. We have the capacity and the skills in house to put together ground-breaking and technically innovative shows and straightforward shows as well. We ll facilitate and help people to use these technologies and if necessary custom design bespoke systems for them, and help with the technical interpretation of an artists creative ideas."
PSL Music has already supplied video equipment to major London video production companies Serious Pictures and Stink Films for promo shoots featuring The Stereophonics and Il Divo.
