Allen & Heath Enters Popworld

Leading London-based rental company, John Henry's Ltd. (JHL), is employing a new Allen & Heath GL2400 live sound console for the currentseries of Channel 4's weekly music programme, Popworld.

The 24-channel mixer is used to manage the live, broadcast and recording mix for all the artists featured in the new series, which is aired on Saturday morning. The diverse catalogue of artists includes the Doves, the Subways, the Sugababes, McFly, Razorlight, the Scissor Sisters, Justin Timberlake, Beyonce Knowles, the Zutons, the Black Eyed Peas, Lee Ryan, Bloc Party, and Athlete.

"The GL2400 is my board of choice - it's so flexible and has an extraordinary amount of functionality for a mixer of its size. The matrix offers a greater variety of feed options, such as IEM and delay fills, than any other board," comments JHL's sound engineer, Simon Panos.

"I love the fact that I can handle so many different things such as the broadcast mix and a monitor feed for the band, and simultaneously provide a multitrack feed from the channel direct outputs for the recording mix. Also, the desk's mic preamps are so good I don't need any extra outboard gear when I use them for recording to multitrack – their clarity is amazing."

"I've tried several desks for the Popworld production but the GL really comes out on top and is now in regular use," Panos concludes.

JHL's prestigious client list spans many of the top musical programmes, such as Later...with Jools Holland, Jonathan Ross, Michael Parkinson, Strictly Come Dancing and T4.
