GrandMA Video in UK for NEXT Clothing Charity Ball
The British clothing retailer NEXT celebrated the annual charity ball 2005 last weekend with Jools Holland and his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra as well as Tony Christie. Hawthorn Theatrical´s latest investment, a grandMA full-size and the MA mediaserver grandMA video has been requested by freelance lighting designer Tom Routledge and supplied for the event. To create an extra special atmosphere for this event, Routledge made good use of the facilities of grandMA multimedia consoles and grandMA video – the only mediaserver-solution integrated into the network system of a lighting console.
The main element of the lighting system was a SoftLED video starcloth serving as backdrop controlled by a grandMA full-size multimedia console and grandMA video. Besides some abstract content the company´s name, several other related texts as well as a gigantic eye was projected on the LED curtain. Some of these images were beautifully animated, sometimes rotated in all axes. “I have been using the SoftLED video starcloth with many other mediaservers in the past and have found that – since discovering MA Lighting´s new server grandMA video – programming has become incredibly simple. With the bi-directional communication between the desk and the server I was able to add new images live to the server browsing from the desk while still running the show simultaneously,” explains Routledge.
The show also used 30 Vari*Lites and several Clay Paky Apha Spot HPE’s as well as LED-type fixtures and generic lighting, all controlled by the grandMA.
