HSL Buys Soft-LED for X-Factor
Leading UK lighting rental house HSL Productions has invested in 150 square metres of Main Light Industry’s fabulous Soft-LED LED drape. This goes straight out on Fremantle Media’s new ‘X-Factor’ series, being recorded at Fountain Studio’s and broadcast on ITV.
In recent months, HSL has been approached by numerous lighting, set and scenic designers wanting to know how and where they can source this dynamic product. When they were asked by X-Factor’s set designer Christopher George and lighting designer Dave Davey they jumped at the chance to purchase Soft-LED and to be involved in yet another high profile TV event.
“There’s no other product like it out there right now,” says HSL’s Mike Oates. “It’s a drape that doubles as a video wall and can be rigged by lampies - surely that’s every production and lighting company’s dream!”
SoftLED is a highly flexible high resolution surface that’s ideal for full colour graphics, text and high resolution video effects of all types. The 2.5m wide by 10m high modules purchased by HSL are totally flexible. They can be used in all types of venues and situations from hotel rooms to concert venues and arenas.
In addition to the six Soft-LED cloths, HSL has also purchased 180 plus i-Colour tiles made by Colour Kinetics. These tiles are also employed on X-Factor - they are under the Perspex stage floor, receiving high resolution video from Pixel Mad. All the LED Product is controlled by Russell Grubiak from a Vector Blue lighting console. These tiles will also be available for rental, once the X-Factor show concludes at the end of December. The tiles can either be run as a 430 channel DMX source via Ethernet or by the Main Light video processor unit.
