Le Mark Short Listed for Another Innovation Award

Le Mark has once again been short listed for a 2005 Cambridgeshire ‘Hunts Post’ Business Award.

This particular award category was introduced to the proceedings in 2002, and Le Mark won that year for the development of their Gel-Tak Filter fix product.

The 2005 nomination was secured for “Innovative Management Approach” or “how to improve staff and directors motivation and performance”. This followed Le Mark’s application and selection to BBC 3’s new business programme ‘Office SOS’ to be aired in December.

This new series has been produced by the BBC’s Popular Features and Business unit. Past productions have included ‘The Money Programme’, ‘Back to the Floor’ and ‘I’ll show them Who’s Boss’ with Gerry Robinson and their original flagship ‘Trouble Shooters’ presented by Sir John Harvey Jones.

The challenge was accepted by the full Le Mark team to work with the programme’s new consultant, Alasdair Jeffrey. The company was filmed over a six-month period, both ‘in’ and ‘out’ of working hours. This also included a day at Le Mark’s booth during the PLASA show.

Le Mark’s Stuart Gibbons commented: “It was the type of programme where you knew that you had to leave your ego at home!"

“My wish was to use the expertise of Alasdair Jeffery, who came with a tough reputation. His background had been honed while working with and improving large PLC’s including Mercedes Benz, a British ‘national airline’ and a large mobile phone company, to name but three! The potential of what he could do for Le Mark was an opportunity too good to let slip. It was extremely tough and some times very painful for directors and staff alike - however the benefits have far out weighed the difficulties.”

Looking back at the programme-making process, Gibbons said: “I felt we should have tried for a bravery award rather then one for innovation! However, I would honestly recommend any company to take the opportunity of this type of challenge if they ever have chance. We hope that our customers can see and hear the difference that the project has made to the team.”

Le Mark’s dynamic approach to seek self improvement was noted by the Cambridgeshire Business Awards Judges. The company, represented by 10 of the main individuals involved in the programme, go forward to the award presentation ceremony on the 4th November 2005.
