Robe Gets it Right for Sony in Malta

The deal was completed a month before a massive conference on the island staged by Sony Communications and Entertainment, which was to be the first outing for the new fixtures. This was held in the Eden Arena, part of Malta’s largest five star hotel, The Intercontinental in St Julian’s.
Studio 7 undertook full production - sound, video, lighting, set-production and staging services for the Sony event, including the purchase of any new equipment needed to cater for the conference’s full requirements. This all had to happen quickly and in a precise order.
Robe’s International sales manager Harry von den Stemmen and the team at the Robe factory in the Czech Republic ensured that the fixtures were delivered on time at very short notice. Charmaine Attard (Sonlit co-owner and Maurice’s sister) who handles all the company’s logistics, then co-ordinated the goods’ arrival on time once they were delivered to the carrier by Robe.
Lighting was designed by Nick Jones. The Robes were used on the floor and in the air. Due to venue restrictions, only four spots could be hung, which luckily gave enough coverage for the stage area.
The remainder of the wash and spot units were put on the deck. Jones took advantage of the unique arched silver ceiling of the arena to bounce light around the space, using the powerful and strong colours on offer from the Robes. Six were mounted on the upstage edge of the stage, used to up-light the white voile backdrop. The versatility of the units meant the voile could be transformed into any colour and texture extremely quickly, and the client loved the assorted effects used to light the large space. All units were run off an Avolites Pearl.
The whole project was extremely successful and Sony Communications and Entertainment reckoned that it was their best conference in 10 years.
Maurice Attard, managing director of Sonlit Ltd commented “It was excellent to see a respected company like Studio Seven invest in Robe and in Sonlit’s service and back up.”
Studio Seven’s managing director, Joe Debono and his right hand assistants Sue Debono and Suzanne Ferrito Ciantar, said: “It’s really satisfying when challenging deadlines and delivery dates are met, and Robe were brilliant.”
