Scottish Lighting Show Success
The third 2005 Scottish Lighting Show was another major success, amply demonstrating the show’s increasing importance to lighting professionals throughout Scotland and the north of England. Hosted by Scottish lighting company Black Light, the show was held on 23rd and 24th September at the appropriate venue of the Granton Lighthouse, Edinburgh.
Many of the industry’s leading lights seized the opportunity to exhibit at a show which, year on year, is becoming an increasingly important event for industry professionals. Taking in products from A (ADB) right through to Z (Zero88), the unique atmosphere of the Show makes it a rare event at which manufacturers and users can discuss any aspect of products in an informal, friendly environment, where you can hear yourself think and don’t need to shout to be heard!
“The Show was a great success with more exhibitors and a wider range of products than ever,” says Black Light managing director Gavin Stewart. “This year’s move to the lighthouse was a major step up as it provided much more space, it was very visually pleasing and created a really good personal atmosphere.”
Having previously been held at Black Light’s own premises, the move to the nearby lighthouse meant that the company’s day to day business could also carry on completely unhindered. There was a certain amount of additional logistics, but the result was well worth the effort that the Black Light team put in.
“We had to run a broadband line from our building and miles of power cabling, but that sort of thing is what we do every day,” continues Gavin. “The staff at the lighthouse were keen to help us make the event a success and everybody worked together incredibly well.”
The success of the Show is certainly not in doubt, with visitor numbers increasing again this year and the exhibitors were also very happy.
“Strand has exhibited at the Scottish Lighting Show before, but it was the first one I’ve been to,” said Peter Sherrington of Strand Lighting. “It was a fantastic show, we had very good feedback and we sold equipment. We’d love to do it again next year. Excellent!”
John Jones of Lift Turn Move added: “It is a really friendly show. This was the second time we’ve exhibited at the Show and the turnout has been really good. Being invited to last year’s show was really appreciated - we were less than a month old as a company and it felt like a real compliment from Gavin to be invited.”
Despite the increased success, Gavin Stewart is not becoming complacent. Improvements can always be made and he is very keen to continue the show’s upward rise.
“We will work ever-harder to ensure that as many visitors and exhibitors as possible can attend and that they all get as much as possible out of the experience,” he says. “There’s always plenty of free food and drink on offer and we go out with the exhibitors in the evening. The emphasis is firmly on blending business and enjoyment seamlessly together.
“A big and hearty thank you to everyone that helped make this year’s show such a success and we look forward to doing it all again next year.”
