Sennheiser Headphones for on-train Entertainment System
Sennheiser headphones have been chosen to complement an innovative on-train entertainment system that has been introduced by Volo:TV for First Great Western Trains. For the first time anywhere in the world, customers can enjoy interactive seat-back entertainment in a unique dedicated coach as a part of one of their High Speed Trains.
From the very start, Volo set out to ensure the system would enhance the passenger’s enjoyment of the journey. The passenger interacts with the screen in three ways: with their eyes, with their ears, and with their fingers. As such, the picture quality must faithfully communicate the entertainment experience, and neither the sound quality nor the on-screen ergonomics must get in the way of that entertainment experience.
Sound quality is particularly important, so Volo employed a top Hi-Fi reviewer and audio consultant, Chris Thomas, to advise on sound set up and headphone selection. As a result, Volo uses high quality Sennheiser MX300 in-ear units. Being very lightweight, their wide dynamic range and excellent bass response made them the ideal choice for clarity and comfort on long journeys.
Customers can navigate their own menu of options using touch screen technology, and choose what they want to watch and for how long. They are in total control of their entertainment options throughout the Volo:TV experience. Like the latest airline systems (albeit very few), the Volo system offers choice and control, via on-demand services, of how they want to be entertained, informed and educated. Also, the system’s high bandwidth enables wireless communications, news, weather and sport to be regularly updated throughout the day, ensuring all content remains fresh, even for frequent users.
