Vieta Sails into Safe Harbour in Northern Ireland
Vieta Pro loudspeakers have been chosen for the Harbour Bar in Portrush, Northern Ireland, a venue which surely has one of the best panoramic views in Europe. The classy design of Vieta's DO Series cabinets, coupled with their superior dispersion characteristics and efficiency, made them an easy choice for installation company Light & Sound FX of Coleraine, NI.
The Harbour Bay has been extensively refurbished by owners George and Jane McAlpine, who operate two other outlets – the Ramore wine bar and Coast Italiano – which share the stunning location, looking out across the famous causeway coast at the very northern tip of Northern Ireland.
The McAlpines have been successfully providing eclectic menus of the finest food in their three privately-run venues. Now the Harbour Bar also presents live music and AV programming in its cool lounge-bar environment. Owner George McAlpine had a very clear idea of what he wanted from his investment in new sound and vision equipment, says installer Darren Gardiner, owner of Light & Sound FX.
"George wanted to create a sophisticated, but cool atmosphere, with a lot of emphasis on the look and style of all the fittings in the venue. He particularly did not want standard ugly boxes randomly hanging off the wall in multiples. He was most insistent that the system had to produce a very warm lush sound, particularly at low levels, as the venue would be in fairly constant operation. Also there would be a wide range of utilisation, from spoken word and playback to live music."
Working closely with Vieta distributors KV2 Audio, Darren Gardiner chose to specify a combination of Vieta's DO-5 full-range cabinets and KV2's EX speakers, discreetly positioned and optimised for near-perfect coverage. The Vieta DO-5 is a two-way passive bass-reflex speaker designed for sound processing in situations which require high quality sound and exceptional clarity in small spaces. Its 60x60 conical dispersion and the 16ohm rating provided the right coverage for the Harbour Bar, keeping reflections to a minimum and concentrating the full sound exactly where it was required. The final design spec provided good amplifier value-for-money, and the result has been called stunning, sounding full and perfectly balanced at all levels.
Client George McAlpine is reportedly extremely happy, his new venue enjoys the unique status of being the first in Northern Ireland to install Vieta's DO Series. He has already commissioned Light & Sound to begin the forthcoming refurbishment of the Ramore Bar, utilising more Vieta and KV2.
