ElectroVoice's New ZX1 Speakers Debut at London's K-Bar

   EV's new generation of small-format, high-output loudspeakers was chosen by installation company Cosmic Electronics, when the K-Bar asked them to upgrade their speaker system. "The club management insisted on having a system that did justice to their high-profile reputation as one of London's most talked-about nightclubs, but they didn't want to become a discotheque," explains Cosmic’s Mark Damon. "Through their sister venue, the Sugar Hut, they thought highly of Electro-Voice, and the timing of the project was perfectly suited to using the latest EV

ZX speaker line."

   The K-Bar is a relatively compact space, with a main bar adjoining its dancefloor, and a VIP room. In all, 10 EV ZX1i 8" two-way cabinets have been used, four in the main bar and six in the dancefloor, where they are supplemented with two EV Gladiator 18-inch G118 subwoofers.

   "The K-Bar wanted something that was small and compact," continues Mark Damon. "This is a small club with low ceilings, so the ZX1 was perfect for us. The rooms are small and square, so we couldn't have one side blasting across the other. Because they're so small, we were able to go for coverage rather than volume and put in more speakers, using six instead of four cabinets around the dancefloor. It's very unobtrusive, but it's still a 200W cabinet and they are hitting it hard every night;

together with the Gladiator bins, it's phenomenal."

   Cosmic Electronics has also used ZX1 speakers to upgrade another venue, the Whispers nightclub in Gravesend, again pairing the ZX1s with Gladiator bass bins. "These cabinets are a very valuable addition to the Electro-Voice portfolio," says Mark Damon. "The fixing brackets are an absolute godsend, they're so easy to use, and, with a proper 1" compression horn, these units are proving to be ideal for vocal applications such as karaoke."

   The ZX1's long-throw 8" woofer coupled with the rotatable EV DH2005 1-inch true compression driver has the acoustic performance of 12" and even some 15" boxes. Aside from being extremely compact in proportion to its performance, ZX1’s clean lines allow for easy integration into nearly any installation. And its extremely competitive price point will wow the user, while reinforcing EV’s reputation for solid

performance and construction quality.
