Lighthouse 6mm Panels for Honda Auto at Frankfurt Motor Show

The Frankfurt Motor Show is one of the most important events on the automotive industry calendar, so it was unsurprising that the 2005 event saw global manufacturer Honda using Lighthouse LED screens to get its promotional message across.

   In use constantly during the Motor Show’s 13-day duration, leading Italian video communication service company VideoRental supplied a huge 246 panels of Lighthouse R6 6mm screen, configured as three displays.

   Two giant 10.8 x 2.8m screens dominated the Honda stand. Each was controlled by two Lighthouse LIP KX processor and a Snell &Wilcox Supervisor LH, which configured a mixture of video and graphics into the required 1632 by 432 pixel format. The content was played from a Watch-Out system with twin DVI outputs.

   A custom structure was employed to hang the screens from a height of three metres, the combination of screen quality, size and height making the Honda stand one of the most eye-catching at the show.

   ”The 6mm Lighthouse screen ensured that the footage was extremely uniform and attractive, with real depth and lifelike colours,” says VideoRental management. “The screen’s very wide viewing angle ensured that the maximum picture quality was maintained when viewed from any position on the stand or across the hall.”

   The third Lighthouse screen measured 4.5m x 2.90m and was used by Honda for its crucial show press conference. This screen was also hung on a custom structure, but much lower to suit the press conference environment.

   Because of the live nature of the press conference, the processor had to be positioned at a master control console around 90 metres from the Lighthouse screen. “In standard installations, this distance could create problems with hum and loss of picture resolution due to the length of cables. But by using Lighthouse serial digital communication technology, the picture was clear, crisp and bright without any kind of noise whatsoever.”
