Making Concerts Safer

This summer the Centre for Crowd Management and Security Studies carried out research work into the pressure on crowds at the primary, secondary and tertiary barriers at major music events. The report and findings from this study are about to be released and contain some highly controversial findings relating to the way crowds are managed and the way events are run.

To coincide with this report, the Centre is holding a Seminar at the BCUC Wellesbourne Campus in High Wycombe on 25th November at 2.00pm to inform the industry of the results for the first time. The project carried out by the Centre in conjunction with the ILMC Safety Focus Group, MOJO Barriers and Roskilde and Nijmegen Festivals identifies some vital findings, which should lead to the implementation of a more informative crowd strategy. This will hopefully ensure that the audience as well as those responsible for the concert organisation are coached and educated on the social, the technological and simple common sense factors which can reduce problems at an event. Such education will go a long way to ensuring that disasters and especially near misses become a thing of the past.

This Seminar is important because, it points the way forward for a safer concert environment and will also highlight good and acceptable practises in an industry trying to compete with higher insurance premiums and ambulance chasing lawyers.

If you would like to attend this important Seminar please contact Tonna Danzine via email tdanzi01@bcuc.ac.uk or phone 01494 605162.

There is a small charge of £20 per person for the Seminar, which will be utilised by the Centre for further research.
