Italian Multiplex Installs Five Dolby Digital Cinema Systems
Dolby Laboratories has announced that The Furlan Group’s CineCity in Padova, Italy, installed five Dolby Digital Cinema systems and Cinemeccanica digital projectors at its brand-new multiplex. With five screens fully installed, CineCity is the largest European installation of digital cinema systems in a single theatre.
CineCity Padova is the latest international installation of the Dolby Digital Cinema system. There are currently more than 100 Dolby Digital Cinema systems in place worldwide, including North America, Japan, France, Germany, Italy, and the UK. Cinemeccanica, a well-known European cinema projector manufacturer and longstanding authorized distributor for Dolby products, installed the digital cinema systems in the multiplex.
Vittore Nicelli, managing director of Cinemeccanica, commented: “Digital cinema in Italy is just beginning to take off. More exhibitors are realizing the huge benefits digital cinema can bring to the entire cinema entertainment chain. The Furlan Group multiplex is leading the field in Italian cinema by installing these digital cinema systems, and I hope there will be many more to follow.”
Gianantonio Furlan, managing director at The Furlan Group’s CineCity Padova, said: “We have chosen to implement Dolby Digital Cinema because we anticipate the demand of more directors to create and distribute movies in a digital format. It allows us to offer flawless, crystal-clear playback of films every time, improving the experience for the cinemagoer.” CineCity Padova began showing Tim Burton’s Corpse Brideand Harry Potter and the Goblet of Firedigitally on 2nd December this year.
