Project Matrix Develops Model Curricula
The Matrix project is a training initiative specialising in the optimisation of the opportunities for training and further education in the events and entertainment sector. It therefore represents a contribution to the European Union's action program for improved European cooperation in the area of vocational training and forms part of the Leonardo da Vinci educational programme, also launched by the EU. The project has been running since October 2003 and is constantly publishing new results. The coordination of matrix is the responsibility of the Media Academy in Berlin.
One of the leading objectives of the project is the development of uniform international standards of training and further education in the events and entertainment sector. Already model curricula have been developed to standardize vocational training for three different careers: those of Stage Manager, Event Manager and Creative Director. These three profiles reflect the interdisciplinary ethos of the industry, in which creativity, management and technology are invariably closely entwined.
Emphasis is also being placed on the integration of the relevant soft skills in a curriculum as well as the development of a credit point system (CPS) as a preliminary stage towards the unified certification of training programmes throughout Europe. Currently, existing CPSs are being adapted to the model curricula, so that standards can be set for educational establishments and the events and entertainment industry itself, but recommendations are also planned summarising the results of the entire project for practitioners and others interested.
Project matrix has been fortunate enough have found competent partners in a number of European countries. What these partners have in common is either many years of experience in the area of vocational training or positions of market leadership in the events and entertainment industry. In addition to the Media Academy from Germany, the ANAé (Association Nationale des Agences conseil en événement) from France, the Ákademie Muzickych Umeni Praha from the Czech Republic, Event Marketing Service GmbH from Austria, the IST Studieninstitut für Kommunikation from Germany, the Leipziger Kreativitätszentrum Bildungs- und Forschungsinstitut from Germany, Lightpower GmbH from Germany, Diakrisi Management & High Technologies from Greece, PGI Hellas S.A. from Greece, PGI London Ltd. from the United Kindgdom, the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama from the United Kingdom and the Technische Universität Berlin/Institut für Berufliche Bildung und Arbeitslehre are all committed to the project, the implementation of which is being urged upon educational institutions throughout Europe.
