Sound Division Combine Gastro and Audio in Own Local Community
While Sound Division Group have won many prestigious contracts in the fashionable bars of London’s West End and beyond, they have certainly not been neglecting their own local bar community in Islington.
The company recently carried out successful sound installations in two of Islington’s burgeoning gastro pubs — the Angelic and Keston Lodge.
Trading on two floors, the 350-capacity Angelic — along with The Priory in Clerkenwell — makes up the Large Bars estate. The conversion of the former Moriarty’s in Islington’s busy Liverpool Road required a system which Sound Division were able to satisfy by integrating eight of Martin Audio’s new AQ8’s with parts of the existing system and distributing them around the new interior (where they are fed by a pre-existing hard drive computer). The speakers are powered by Crown XLS amplification and the signal is processed and optimised via a dbx 166XL dual compressor/limiter with 15-band graphic, and via an existing Numark RM6 mixer zoning device.
The venue’s experienced operations director Lee Bradshaw, said: “I had been looking on the internet for a sound installation company to ugrade our old hi-fi speakers and really liked the Sound Division website. I then realised they were just down the road — and on top of that one of our guys had worked with them before. Although music isn’t our main focus here — as it is in Clerkenwell — they have done an excellent job.”
Sound Division — who have also provided the venue with DJ input points — specified the AQ series because “they look and sound substantial and the AQ8’s are perfect for pubs such as this,” according to installations ,anager, Elliott Paterson.
At the same time the company has enhanced the Angelic’s multimedia experience, providing a 3,000 ANSI lumen Mitsubishi XD480 projector to enable Sky sports to be shown on the existing screen.
Meanwhile, in nearby Upper Street, Dan Levine (former owner of the Islington Embassy) has taken over All Bar One and converted it to Keston Lodge. With DJ’s as part of the mix he needed a punchy sound system and Sound Division were contacted to provide an Electro-Voice system, based around four SX300 full range speakers powered by a Crown XS900 amplifier. Limiting and EQ curves have been created in a dbx 2215.
Said Elliott Paterson: “The venue wanted to beef up the main part of the venue at weekends, when they have a DJ — and Dan just loves the sound of EV.”
At the same time Sound Division have judiciously reworked the original Martin Audio system which now forms the background system.
It is the culmination of a busy period for the installation company, who have also carved another notch in the North One dance tapestry . . . by installing a punchy Turbosound system into the Salmon & Compass — on Chapel Market.
