Top Television Studios Lit By Color Kinetics
Color Kinetics continues to drive adoption in the television production market with recently completed installations for The Tonight Show, CNN’s Washington DC Newsroom and The Situation Room, MTV Total Request Live, and The X Factor – one of the UK’s top-watched entertainment programmes with an estimated 10 million viewers. Its systems will also vividly light the globally anticipated Final Draw ceremony for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, which will be broadcast in 145 countries on 9th December from Leipzig, Germany.
These mark the latest in a growing number of high-profile television events and programmes to apply Color Kinetics’ LED-based systems as a practical alternative to conventional lighting methods in set design. Unlike conventional sources, they require no gels or filters to supplement fill and background lighting with colour. In the use of white light, they uniquely allow colour temperature control to properly illuminate sets and on-air talent. Their compact size and absence of heat allow versatility in positioning the systems on set, including the direct integration into set elements where the use of conventional lights is impractical.
“The extraordinary visual impact of Color Kinetics’ systems coupled with their ease of control and rugged, durable nature makes them an ideal solution for The X Factor set,” said show lighting director Dave Davey, who applied 171 units of iColor Tile FX beneath the clear stage floor to display sophisticated video-based effects. “LED technology allows a completely new level of creative flexibility in lighting design, and the saturated colours translate very effectively on camera.” The set also features the use of Soft-LED, a light drapery manufactured by Main Light Industries with Color Kinetics’ Chromasic technology.
