White Light Losing a Company Voice
Chris King, the friendly face that’s greeted visitors to White Light’s base in Wimbledon for the last few years, is to retire in December after being with White Light for over 16 years. He leaves White Light’s Wimbledon base to escape the hustle-and-bustle of London for a calmer life in Devon.
As White Light’s ‘senior communicator’ Chris King is the cheerful voice that greeted telephone callers and, unlike the computerised systems favoured by so many organisations these days, welcomed regulars by name. He's put their call through to the appropriate team while figuring out how stressed they’ve sounded and greeted new callers as long-established friends, while working out which member of the company could best assist them.
A former car salesman, Chris first met White Light’s co-founder and chairman John Simpson through their local amateur theatre company. He joined White Light in 1989 as part of the Sales team, moving into the customer service area as White Light expanded and moved to its current base in Wimbledon. As the first point-of-contact, he deals with the majority of the nine hundred or more telephone calls that White Light receives each day, and will continue to do so right up until the end of his last day, 9th December. “Chris’s contribution to White Light over the last 16 years is immeasurable,” comments White Light’s chairman, John Simpson. “All of us and all of our customers will miss his voice at the end of the phone; his replacement will have a very high standard to live up to! We wish him a long and happy retirement.... which, of course, we will be starting with a traditional send off after his last day!”
