Romers Install Martin Audio System for Blackburn Rovers

Six enclosures — based on the Blackline H3 system — have been fitted under the roof of the 8,158-capacity Blackburn End stand, which is populated by the home supporters.
Specialists in stadia fit-outs, Romers wanted to create maximum vertical coverage — via a 40° x 70° horn pattern (rather than the customary 70° x 40°); thus a bespoke solution was favoured, with the loudspeakers mounted on their sides.
Martin Audio’s Peter Child said: “We based the customisation of the H3’s on our AM3 Stadium enclosure and were able to offer the solution they required. The enclosures were sprayed with a high density polyurethane plastic coating both internally and externally, while the drivers were weather-proofed behind a heavy galvanized and powder-coated grille, fitted with an integral water barrier.” The standard rear panel fitted with NL4 Speakon connectors was replaced with a sealed panel fitted with a gland and flying lead.
In addition the mid-high and low sections are fitted with 150W line transformers. John Caton, Romers MD, says that this provides greater control over the frequencies, increasing the quality of the music playback while maintaining speech intelligibility. Run in bi-amp mode, the system is integrated with the ground’s safety requirements.
“These are the reasons we favoured the Martin Audio solution, ” said John, “plus the fact that it met the cost requirements.”
As a result, he says, “the H3 is doing the job asked of it very well indeed."
