Two Awards for Carling Academy Birmingham
Carling Academy Birmingham has been voted ‘Best Concert Venue (over 500)’ and ‘Best Club/Club Night’ by Evening Mail (Birmingham) readers in the 2004 Night Out Awards. The awards celebrate the best of entertainment and leisure across the region, chosen by the public during March - November last year.
General manager Richard Maides says: "We're thrilled to be recognised as Best Concert Venue over 500 and Best Club, especially as these awards are voted for by people in the Midlands who support the Academy and enjoy great music and club nights that we offer. The Academy attracts a varied diary of events from international acts, to emerging British talent, as well as actively supporting the live gig scene, so it’s a great achievement after such a fantastic year.”
The award for ‘Best Club/Club Night’ is another excellent achievement as the Academy is home to two incredibly popular weekly club residencies. Every Friday is Ramshackle, awarded ‘Best Club Night’ in the same awards last year. Ramshackle has grown to become one of the largest and well established clubs in the country catering for those who appreciate a broad mix of music from break beats and hip hop, to funky classics, indie and northern soul. Every Saturday is Subculture, the biggest weekly rock night in the Midlands, voted #2 in Kerrang! Magazine’s UK Best Club 2004 Readers Poll.
