JVC DLA-SX21 for Weatherhead High School Media Arts College

The new Weatherhead High School Media Arts College buidling was formally opened by HRH The Duke of Gloucester in May 2004. The showpiece of the College's PFI purpose built facility is its 500 seat auditorium. Weatherhead chose the JVC's DLA-SX21 D-ILA projector as it is capable of handling full cinematic presentations, a requirement which was needed by a College which helps develop the talents of our future filmmakers, and provides them with access to the latest technology.

The capability of the SX21 has already enabled the College to host the first Wirral Schools contemporary celebration of young filmmakers in 2004. Twenty-seven schools took part in the event and there was a presentation from primary to 6th form level. All this talent had an opportunity to showcase its wares - courtesy of the SX21. Due to the overwhelming success of their first festival, Weatherhead High School will now be hosting a second film festival this summer. In addition to the main auditorium, Weatherhead High School will have six mini-cinemas for families and students to watch their films.

Martin Boston, deputy headteacher at the Media Arts College comments: "The picture quality is just stunning and the projector handles a range of source inputs effortlessly. It is competitively priced and the low running costs have made it an ideal solution. The SX21 has made the cinema set up a living reality."

The DLA-SX21 incorporates three high performance SXGA+ (1,400 x 1,050) 0.7-inch D-ILA devices that produce a total of 4.5 million pixels. It has a contrast ratio of 800:1 and 1,500 ANSI lumens. The D-ILA technology achieves the perfect combination of brightness, resolution and contrast in colour for the big screen. All of these features translate into superior performance which is why it was the projector of choice for Weatherhead High School.

John Carpenter, general manager, sales and marketing at JVC Professional Europe comments: "Through our educational partnership activities we are particularly keen to help promote the creative capabilities in both video and film of students throughout UK and Eire. Therefore, it is good to see that the Weatherhead installation has been such a success from the outset and that the DLA SX21 is playing its part in supporting tomorrow's filmmakers to take their first steps in professional cinematography."
