New Aurora Rack-Mounting Converters from HHB

HHB Communications has announced the launch of two new standalone audio converters from Lynx Studio Technologies: Aurora 8 and Aurora 16. These are the first 19" rack mounting products from Lynx, which has established an enviable reputation around the world for audio interface products of exceptional quality and performance.

Both models are 24-bit 192kHz A-D/D-A converters in a single 1U package, with Aurora 8 and Aurora 16 offering 8 and 16 channels of simultaneous analogue and AES/EBU I/O respectively. Additionally, an onboard 32-channel digital mixer provides extensive routing and mixing options, including the ability to route signals between analogue and digital inputs on a channel-by-channel basis.

Developed using Lynx¹s next generation of acclaimed conversion technology, both models are equipped with electronically balanced analogue I/O, supporting both +4dBu and 10dBV operating levels, while the AES digital I/O is transformer coupled and equipped to drive 500 feet of cable at 192kHz. Both dual and single wire AES formats are supported.

In typical Lynx fashion, the front panel user interface is intuitive and logical, allowing easy access to all key parameters and signal status. The unique remote control facility elevates both Aurora products to levels of flexibility unmatched by the competition including the ability to control many Aurora features via a number of remote methods, including the Lynx AES16 digital interface card, pocket PC or laptop, MIDI or an LSlot interface card. Additionally, multiple remote set-up configurations can be saved and recalled.

Designed to accept Lynx¹s own optional interface cards, Aurora¹s LSlot expansion port provides compatibility with a growing range of digital audio formats including Firewire, ADAT and AES/SPDIF with a Pro Tools interface card scheduled for imminent release.

Reinforcing a reputation for unrivalled clocking accuracy, Aurora¹s Wordclock I/O facility boasts the proprietary Lynx SynchroLock jitter reduction system: this technology delivers up to 3000:1 jitter reduction, yielding a clock signal of class-leading quality and reliability.

To provide quick, easy installation, all analogue and digital I/O use DB25 connectors with industry standard pin configurations making both Aurora models compatible with off-the-shelf cables from all major manufacturers.

HHB sales director Steve Angel welcomed the new Aurora converters, saying: "We¹ve seen Lynx interface products attracting a growing and enthusiastic user base here in the UK, as customers become aware of the huge benefits in sound quality and stability that Lynx is able to offer. The arrival of the company¹s first standalone 19" rack products will undoubtedly broaden the appeal of the Lynx technology even further, as larger numbers of recording and live sound engineers are able to access its benefits."
