ACE PA Selects Allen & Heath for Conference Milestone
ACE PA selected a 40-channel Allen & Heath ML3000 VCA live sound console configured with six stereo channels to provide sound reinforcement at the 80th Rotary International Annual Conference, held at Manchester's MEN Arena in April 2005.
Production company Comtec Presentations, appointed ACE PA to provide a PA system for the various speakers and performing artists during the three-day conference and celebration. The 2005 event marked 100 years' service for Rotary, and approximately 3,000 club members attended this year's event.
For the conference - which included the guest speakers HRH Princess Anne, motivational speaker, Duncan Goodhew, and Orpheus Trust founder, Richard Stilgoe - there were inputs from two lectern mics, six radio mics, with VT, PC, DVD, CD and Mini-disc feeds. The first evening's entertainment included performances from a steel band, three school orchestras and a 200-strong choir, supported by carefully placed condenser microphones. Other entertainment highlights during the event included the 15-piece Mike James Big Band, an Irish Jig group, and a Scottish Pipe Band.
The ML3000 also managed monitor duties, with 10 outputs used as feeds for on-stage monitors. Auxes 1-6 were used for monitor sends for the various bands, with aux 7 and 8 utilised for effects. Furthermore, there was a back-stage monitor send for the production team and a feed to the induction loop system, fed from the matrix. Two separate recording sends were also established via the matrix for the speakers and musical acts.
"Having 8 aux sends and a 4-way matrix meant we were easily able to cover requirements. Having this frame size desk meant that all the settings for the daytime conference could be left in place with plenty of capacity remaining for the evening events," comments ACE PA's managing director, Gary Jones. "We are very pleased with the ML3000's performance and quality; it makes the job so much easier and you can relax when you know the desk can cope with everything thrown at it."
