Avolites at MTV Asia Aid

The lighting design/direction team came from the UK, headed by DOP Eugene O’Connor who also operated the key lighting console. Main stage LD was Theo Cox and Mikey Howard looked after stages B and C plus the extensive audience lighting. All were working with The Show Company from Singapore, MTV Asia’s principal technical production contractor. The Show Company is headed by Joseph Gan. In addition to supplying all lighting, they also provided two Catalyst digital media servers for the video clips, and both high resolution & ‘break-up’ LED screens for the event.
The show’s co-producer and technical director was Mick Perry, from MTV Europe, appointed by MTV Asia to project manage this event.
The two Avo Diamond 4’s – an Elite and a Vision – were specified for the show by Mikey Howard, and other Avo product used on the event included a D4 Simulator and Ez DMX, two Avo FD 72 channel dimming racks and two Avo ART 2000 48-channel dimming racks, plus Avo DMX splitters.
The D4 Vision – operated by Mikey Howard - was controlling VL3000 Spot and Wash luminaires, High End x-Spots, Studio Beams and Colors, 3k Syncrolites and Space Flowers. Meanwhile, the D4 Elite, operated by Eugene O’Connor, ran 28 Molefeys and over 100 ETC Source Fours plus a selection of Pars, fluorescent and neon lights adorning the set.
The main stage set, also designed by Eugene O’Connor, included several curved low res Barco MiPix screens, a ‘break-up’ screen containing 132 panels of Panasonic Astrovision and 200 tiles of Barco I-Lite6XP SMD screen. It was triangular in shape and located in one corner of the arena to ensure all stages had equal emphasis, rather than one area dominating.
This was the fourth MTV Asia Awards undertaken by The Show Company, one of the most dynamic and fastest growing production companies in South East Asia.
The event was presented by Alicia Keys. Rock music was the ‘in’ genre, with Avril Lavigne and Maroon 5 picking up gongs in the international categories. Live performances from Good Charlotte, Thailand’s Modern Dog, Thai/Australian teen sensation Lanna Commins and Canada’s Simple Plan plus many others helped make it a great night for all involved.
